Homeward Bound

July 31, 2018

The Manchester Arena a couple of weeks ago – jam packed with couples, friends, lovers – from the 60’s, in their 60’s – all reliving their youth and their memories, courtesy of Paul Simon on his Farewell Homeward Bound Tour.  (Especially appropriate given the song was written 26 miles away on the London bound platform at Widnes Railway Station in the Spring of 1964.)

We were in the centre of the centre block of seats – row 4, with Paul Simon an arm’s length away – all 5’ 2” of him.  What a night – 2½ hours of poetry, rhythm and rock – from The Sounds of Silence, through Graceland and more, from Greenwich Village to Brazil, New Orleans and Soweto.  Amazing.  A great night.

You can’t make Old Friends.
